Dig Deep – Overlake High School CARRY 5 Event raises $1800
On May 23, students from Overlake High School in Redmond, Washington held a CARRY 5 Event, which raised over $1800 for people in need of safe drinking water and toilets.
Fifty people joined in the exciting event. Many of the students carried water on their backs in an effort to better understand the difficult walk millions of women and girls make every day to gather water.
The event was organized by two Overlake 9th graders, Grace Grubb and Madeleine Colvin, who started an organization called Dig Deep in 2008. Dig Deep’s first goal is to raise $10,000 for Water 1st to build 12 public water tap stands in rural Ethiopia. They have posted an online photo gallery here.
